Panel discussion “What is good in the higher education system and what needs to be improved”

Director of the Agency Dr Srdja Popovic participated in a panel discussion titled “What is good in the higher education system and what needs to be improved” held at the Law Faculty where, from the perspective of the Agency’s activities, he pointed out the challenges faced by the higher education system in Montenegro. On this occasion, he informed the participants about activities of the Agency, as well as the measures for improvement in that field in the following period.

Besides the Director of the Agency, the Minister of Education, Dr Damir Šehović, the Rector of the University of Montenegro, Dr Danilo Nikolic, and the Student Ombudsman of the University of Montenegro, Aleksandar Šipčić, spoke at the panel discussion.

At the panel is presented a survey conducted among students by the Student Parliament, which provided answers to questions concerning the quality of the teaching process, the rules of study, and the frequency of teaching.

The Director of the Agency pointed out the importance of internationalization of institutions of higher education and student mobility which, through the process of membership of the Agency in international associations and through the application of European standards and guidelines in practice, will reach the expected level. In this regard, he emphasized the importance of introducing English language studies, which will greatly facilitate and increase mobility.

In addition, the Director of the Agency also spoke about the ranking of higher education institutions, pointing out that the goal is to provide regional ranking, not only local, and that the metodology for the implementation of the mentioned activity will be defined this year.

The goal of the Agency is to involve students in the process of decision making on the accreditation of study programs and re-accreditation of institutions in the following period, and he pointed out that for the Agency, students represent partners, the most important source of information, as well as the reason for existence.

The panel conclusion was to continue with the full implementation of reforms, with the aim of improving the quality of higher education in Montenegro, which is also the slogan of the Agency “Higher education is a matter of quality and not just diplomas”.
